Some Useful Tips For Pattaya Visitors

Some Useful Tips For Pattaya Visitors

Most people, especially single men, are guaranteed a great stay in Pattaya. With its wonderful nightlife and laid-back atmosphere, it’s hard not to enjoy yourself, but there are a few safety tips to bear in mind whilst visiting.

Late at night, from 1am onwards, try not to travel alone in secluded areas. On second Road, between Soi 7 and 11, exercise caution, as there have been muggings along this stretch. The pier from Walking Street and the beach are known not to be particularly safe areas after dark. Also, be alert for pickpockets in the heavily congested tourist areas.

Ladyboys are infamous in every major Thai city for robbing farangs. If these exotic creatures are your kettle of fish, and you decide to take one back to your hotel, keep your wits about you. Some male tourists have woken up in the morning with a sore head from being drugged and found their wallet and belongings have gone.

Many ladyboys make a career out of this, or at least enough to finance their gender-changing operations. Many of them hang around the beachfront in the early hours of the morning and can be quite forward and aggressive if you’re on your own.

No matter how tight-fisted you may be, always try to take a girl from a bar, rather than a freelancer on the beach or in the street. Many are illegal aliens, and should they rip you off they’ll be harder to track down.

The traffic can be quite hazardous if you don’t keep your wits about you. If you’ve had a few too many Sangsoms try to remember to look both ways. 2nd Road and Soi Diana are particularly busy.

Don’t be talked into going to a gem shop – really old scam this one – you’ll just pay a fortune for coloured glass. “Mai ow krap,” is a phrase that comes in very useful in Pattaya. “No thank you,” is often not enough to deter the sellers of pirate DVDs and fake Rolexes, but if you say it in Thai they think you’ve been in the country awhile and are not so gullible.

Don’t start a fight with a Thai. They may look smaller than you, and easy prey, but it won’t take long before you’re tackling four or five of them. Never disrespect Buddha or the Royal family, and the majority of Thais will treat you warmly.

If you’re offered drugs, no matter how light the penalties may be in your own country, refuse outright. Just one joint of marijuana can result in a six-year prison sentence. Thai prisons are notoriously harsh.

Probably stating the obvious this one: always wear protection. HIV has become very prevalent in Thailand over the last decade.

Now enjoy and have a sabbai dee time.

Pattaya First Time Visitors Advice

I have just returned from PATTAYA and the experience was the most PHENOMINAL I have ever experienced. My name is Stuart Mills from Australia age 47.

My stay was one as would be treated as royalty by the people of this friendly environment.

I stayed only a very short time and during this period, I was given many insights in a very positive way to the people and the culture of this land.

With 3 inch mini skirts abounding in greatest of quantity, men will never be of the experience of loneliness among these most beautiful ladies that are simply put, MODELS and SUPER MODELS and are eager to treat a man as a man should be treated, as long as you respect the ladies and yourself, anything your desires can wish for with these ladies will be possible.

But please use common sense as they are looking for the most part, not all of them, but for the most part of them at you as a WALKING TELLER MACHINE so if you do fall in love, which will happen, then please be very careful at your choice of partner.

I have found that the more mature ladies will treat you not so much better but with more cultural caring, as they have been through the corridors of time and experiences and definitely know the ropes and because there is so much competition within the ladies then the more mature realise this and they are more willing to be with you in a relationship for you and not just your wallet, please, some of the younger ladies are of this quality as well, but for the most part if you find a lady about 28 to 35, then she will definitely know the ropes and know how to treat a man.

I say this with all respect to all the ladies of Pattaya. (yes they are ladies so treat them as such and they will treat you as a king. Disrespect them and believe me you will know the wroth of them)

A point to remember as well is to barter, with the ladies as this I have found is to be expected, and never come down more than half the price they initially ask

(The prices are cheap anyway and yes, they have to live as you and I do so please be fair when you do barter, these people are so poor so do not take advantage too much as this will offend them as it would offend you if you had a family to feed in this country and you were from this country.. simply put, be fair and they will recipricate in same.

DENTAL... Wow this is a beauty, Ii went to my dentist here in Australia in March 2006, (This year and enquired on dental work I required, simply in Australia for the same dental work $25,000) Screw in teeth needed (5 of them , $5000 each tooth)

Pattaya price only $ 3000 TOTAL for the same work done, so if you need any dental work done, and you can wait for your visit to the dentist then definitely wait as the savings are phenomenal.

$ 25,000 or $ 3000 ( hmmmm don't have to be a rocket scientist to work that one out.!)

OK food in Australia example ...T Bone steak salad and chips plus 2 scotch and coke, cost approx in Australia about $ 40 for this meal and beverage.

In Pattaya, approx ...$3 (YES I did say 3)

Once again rocket science is not my forte but hey I have been there so you decide!

If this is only your 1st trip then you will find you will have a magnificent time if you forget Western Culture, (took me about a week)

DO NOT wear or take expensive jewellery with you when you go out as this will only attract the POSSIBLE wrong type of person along your journey. Lock all valuables in the hotel safe and make sure they secure it in the safe within an envelope and get them to put tape over the seal and then sign the seal tape. It is simply a safety precaution for anywhere you wish to travel, even within your own country.

OK enough of all that.

Go enjoy, relax, do your own thing. So long as She or He is over 16, they do have laws there too and are very stringent and NO DRUGS, repeat "NO DRUGS AT ALL", check with your doctor before you leave your country of origin as you may be able to get a letter from your doctor for prescriptions only but even then they may be confiscated.

If you like the inside of prison instead of your hotel room or maybe even death for just a quarter of a matchbox of marijuana. Yes, death, bullet, not breathing then please do no blame anybody but yourself because you are the dickhead for taking illegal drugs into paradise.

Don't muck it up for your death. So declare every prescriptions at customs before you depart your country.

All aside from all the gory stuff and things you must be aware of you will find, the people and places of Thailand, Pattaya are there for your greatest pleasures to enjoy, so have a great time.

I am retiring there, in a few months time. I only came back to Australia to work so I can go back to the place I now call home...." PATTAYA"

Enjoy.

Pattaya can be brash, bold, beautiful and bucolic, and offers everything an authentic international beach resort can.

Local culture:
Within twenty years, Pattaya has been transformed from a sleepy fishing community into an international resort often referred to as the 'Thai Riviera'. Pattaya is literally a place where East meets West , both in colour and character, and is probably the most cosmopolitan place in Thailand after Bangkok

The Place for All Tastes

For sun lovers and water-sports fans, Pattaya's sunny climate provides ideal conditions for swimming and all other imaginable water activities, including fishing, boat sailing, speed-boating, water-scooter riding, water skiing, parasailing, scuba diving and windsurfing.

For those who do not want to get drenched, Pattaya also has gyms and health clubs for exercise and many kinds of land sports and games to choose from, such as shooting, car racing, horse riding, archery, golf, bowling, tennis, go-kart, paintball, etc.

For shoppers, fashionable boutiques and shops of ready-made garments, silk, paintings, handicrafts, gemstones, jewelry and trinkets are centred in the main street of Central and South Pattaya and also in the luxurious hotels. And the prices are fair.

For gourmets, Pattaya's cookeries offer at reasonable prices a wide range of superlative fresh seafood and various styles of cuisine -- Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, Italian, German, Scandinavian, Mexican, American, Indian, Russian, etc. And for night owls, Pattaya's lively nightlife caters for every taste. The most brightly colourful spot is South Pattaya where all kinds of nightly entertainment are offered.

In short, Pattaya is the place for all. No wonder it has remained popular among those who come to spend their holidays from far and near alike.

Major Beaches and Islands

Pattaya Beach

Some 4 kilometres long, this beach faces Pattaya Bay, the major venue from where boats visit Pattaya's offshore islands. The beach curves from north to south and is largely paralleled by a treelined promenade and beach road which is lined, in the northern and central parts, by hotels and restaurants. The northern section of the beach is largely tranquil, while the central and southern parts become increasingly lively, thanks to a position of shops, department stores, boutiques, beauty salons, supermarkets, bars, discotheques, restaurants and nightclubs. The central area of the beach is a major shopping area, while the southern end is one of Pattaya's major nightlife areas.

Starting from Dusit Resort Hotel in the area called North Pattaya to the small hill in the South, Pattaya beach and its parallel beach road is about 3 kilometres long. Apart from swimming and sunbathing, the beach also offers excellent facilities for watersports enthusiasts of all kinds
Pattaya in Daytime
Pattaya at Nighttime

The northern part is a more quiet area of resorts while the southern part is a place of hustle and bustle, where both sides of the street are lined up with department stores, restaurants, discotheques, bars and nightclubs and shops of all kinds.

Jomtien Beach

This 6-kilometre long, largely straight beach, some 4 kilometres south of Pattaya, is the most notable of several beaches south of the resort. The beach is popular with windsurfers and watersports enthusiasts, largely because the area enjoys brisk and fresh breezes sweeping island from the Thai Gulf, and because the seas are less congested with boats than is Pattaya Bay. Jomtien is also a major residential area with beachside hotels, bungalow complexes, condominiums and restaurants.

The former paddy fields have turned into a thriving beach. Only 3 km. down Pattaya Beach, Jomtien is highly recommended to those who seek a quieter resort, where the golden sand, bright sun and blue clear sea are always pleased to welcome all vacationers.

It is a good place for relaxation with modern comforts and accommodation. Its long straight coastline of 6 kilometres with a fringe of coconut and palm trees offers vacationers a pleasant atmosphere for relaxing and viewing the sun setting in the sea. Its calm sea is also suitable for swimming and playing all kinds of water sports for the whole year. Jomtien Beach is especially the best spot for windsurfing and instruction is widely available for beginners.

Ko Lan (Lan Island)
Some 15 minutes by speedboat from Pattaya Bay, Ko Lan is the largest of Pattaya's offshore islands and is a popular venue for watersports such as windsurfing, water skiing, snorkelling and scuba-diving. Viewing coral reefs through glass-bottomed boats and parasailing are other popular activities. Island beaches are lined with souvenir stalls selling colourful beachwear and decorative handicrafts, foodstalls and restaurants. Visitors seeking greater tranquility can travel to Ko Pai (Bamboo Island), some 35 minutes by speedboat from Pattaya Bay. Quiet, pristine beaches and clear waters ideal for swimming and snorkeling characterize this uninhabited island.

Pattaya General Information

Chon Buri – The Nearest Seaside Retreat

Chonburi, Bangkok’s nearest seaside town, is located on the eastern coast of the Gulf of Thailand, only 80 kilometers from Bangkok. The area boasts abundant natural resources, which are highlighted by delightful beaches, local colors, traditions, delicacies and fresh seafood. This is a popular resort among Bangkokians who seek the nearest escape from hectic weekly schedules as Chon Buri has something for everyone. In addition, Chon Buri is the center of the Eastern Seaboard Development Project, with its industrial parks and fishing villages.

Pattaya – A Traveler’s Paradise

Pattaya is nestled along a picturesque bay on the East Coast of the Gulf of Thailand, roughly 170 kilometers southeast of Bangkok. From a fishing village in the 1960's, Pattaya has emerged as the favorite Southeast Asian vacation center. A fascinating escape where tourists, holiday makers and vacationers from around the world unfold an incomparable array of possibilities to unwind during an exotic holiday beach vacation.

Unlike other beach resorts, where natural surroundings are used as magnets to attract tourists, Pattaya makes an all-out attempt to provide the best of everything. Here, “everything” means everything a tourist can imagine while on holiday: recreation, entertainment, sports, sightseeing and fun. To put it simply, Pattaya is a paradise for everyone, as it has a variety of attractions suitable for all types of visitors. This is the place where you can fill your day, from dusk to dawn, with endless activities, or you may choose to do nothing at all and relax.

Today, Pattaya is one of Thailand’s premier beach resorts and annually attracts thousands of pleasure-seeking tourists from all over the world. Despite the wide range of excellent facilities for tourists with legitimate interests, Pattaya in particular has, like Thailand in general, an image problem, caused by the so-called sex industry.

Reports in the international media have long overemphasized the sex-related negative sides of the city and these reports, fueled by the local media haven’t helped the situation. Prostitution is practiced and perverts coming to Pattaya has made sensational international coverage, enticing people to come with the sole purpose of bedding pre-teenagers of either sex.

True, there has been a problem, but things are improving here as well as other known ‘sex trade’ areas in Thailand. It is regularly raided by both the Thai and international police. The future for Pattaya is looking bright being encouraged and although the industry still exists, and already there are major changes to the area. Wholesome, family entertainment is on.

Not that Pattaya lacks in attractions. It has good beaches, though the actual Pattaya beach is not the cleanest anymore, others are pristine and the water crystal clear. Beach related activities are extensive and you are sure to find something to suit you.

Pattaya is located within easy reach from the Bangkok as well as Don Muang International Airport. It has an excellent accommodation infrastructure, which are of international standard and restaurants and entertainment for all tastes. Because of its good accessibility from Bangkok, Pattaya remains one of Thailand’s most important and popular dive centers.

Climate

Thailand has a tropical climate with three seasons: Hot (March-May), Rainy (June-October) and Cool (November-February). It is hot all year round, there is little difference between the hottest and coolest months, and average temperatures are around 27°c.

The months with the most rain are July, August and September. Pattaya’s coastal location means more breezes than say Bangkok and the rain tends to come in short and heavy bursts rather than prolonged over days, but no matter when you come, you'll have a good time. Lightweight casual clothing is recommended.
